The Center's Newsletter -- In the Process of Change

Beginning with the October newsletter, you will find some changes in the format and information. With current costs rising for the publication and mailing, we are attempting to continue to offer as much information as possible, but in a shortened version. With your feedback and suggestions on future issues, we are certain the result will be a success. To help defray mailing costs, several options are available to you as to how you receive the newsletter. Please review these choices and let us know of your decision by completing and returning the attached form, contacting us at 724-938-3554 Ext. 102, or by e-mailing to kmcavoy@centerinthewoods.org.

The Top 3 Reasons to get your Flu Vaccine

PREVENTS INFLUENZA-RELATED DEATH

Each year over 36,000 people in the U.S. die because of the flu-most are 65 or older. More people die from the flu than from any other vaccine-preventable disease.

   PREVENTS SEVERE ILLNESS

50 years or older? Even if you are active and in good health - you have a higher risk of complications if you get the flu. Living with chronic (ongoing) or long-term health problems? Conditions that include diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, asthma, cancer or HIV/AIDS increase your likelihood of complications from the flu. Influenza puts about 114,000 people in the hospital each year in the U.S.

PROTECTS OTHER PEOPLE

You can spread the influenza virus to others even before you first experience symptoms. (If you are a caregiver for young children, the elderly, someone who is chronically ill or if you are a healthcare worker, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage you to seek a flu vaccination to protect those you care for as well as yourself.)
